Window glass replacement – Koszalin and surrounding area
A cracked, broken or fogged-up pane is no reason to replace the whole window. In most cases replacing just the glazing unit is enough — far faster and cheaper than buying a new sash. We provide our services in Koszalin and the surrounding area, working with PVC, wooden and aluminium windows.
When should you replace the glass?
- Crack or breakage – for safety and lost insulation, don't put the replacement off.
- Fogging between the panes (mist, water droplets inside the unit) – a sign the sealed unit has lost its seal and its thermal-insulation properties. Such a pane can't be cleaned from the inside — the whole unit must be replaced.
- Deep scratches or condensation – often the perfect moment to switch to a modern, energy-efficient warm unit that lowers heating bills.
What's inside? How the glass construction affects its wear
A modern window is not made of single panes but of so-called glazing units (insulated glass units). Understanding their construction explains why a fogged-up window can only be replaced:
- Chambers filled with noble gas: The space between the panes (usually 16 mm) does not contain ordinary air but argon, or less often krypton. These gases have much lower thermal conductivity than air, so they form a barrier against the cold.
- Natural wear (gas escape): No window is 100% airtight for its entire life. It is estimated that about 1% of the argon escapes naturally each year from every working unit. After a dozen or so years its concentration drops and the window becomes "colder".
- Seal failure and desiccant wear: When the seal bonding the panes (butyl and polyurethane) cracks due to age or stress, the argon escapes rapidly. Humid air from outside is drawn in to replace it. Inside the profile there is a spacer bar filled with a special granulate (a molecular sieve/desiccant) whose job is to absorb moisture. Once the granulate becomes fully saturated and "used up", permanent mist and condensation that cannot be removed appear inside the window.
How does the replacement work?
- Measurement and unit selection (thickness, type and number of chambers – double or triple glazing).
- Ordering the glass to the exact size.
- Fitting – removing the old unit, installing the new one, precise sash adjustment and a tightness check.
Fitting the new glass is usually a single short visit. We schedule it around the unit's production time and your calendar.
Sealed (warm) units — why bother?
While replacing a damaged pane, it's worth choosing an energy-efficient unit (low Ug coefficient). The price difference is small, and the benefits are real: a warmer interior in winter and lower energy bills, especially noticeable with large glazing and patio doors.
